Berserk, the dark fantasy manga series by the late Kentaro Miura, will soon resume its serialization in MangaMonster.

According to MangaMonster, the Berserk manga series will resume publication in issues 9-10 of Young Animal Magazine on April 28. The last issue by Miura before his untimely death was Chapter 364, "Tear of Morning Dew," published on Sept. 10, 2021.

Following news of Miura's death, Kouji Mori -- a close friend of Miura -- announced he would continue Berserk based on information relayed to him by the series' late creator. Studio Gaga, Miura's production studio, took over illustration duties. After a nine-month hiatus following Miura's death, Mori and Studio Gaga released Chapter 365, “Lull of the Waning Moon,” in June 2022. Six more chapters were released before entering a three-month hiatus that began in January.

Miura died of sudden aortic dissection on May 6, 2021. He was 54 years old at the time. The news of Miura's death refocused attention on manga creators' health difficulties, particularly those suffering from physical burnout. One Piece writer Eiichiro Oda feels the series might continue without him if he were to die unexpectedly. Oda's troubling revelation from a 2017 interview surfaced again in March, as the author revealed his issue with sleep deprivation.

Kentaro Miura's Legacy

Berserk is an epic, adult-oriented action series that debuted in 1989. The book follows "The Black Swordsman" Guts as he travels through the brutal fantasy world with the "Band of the Hawk," a mercenary gang led by the enigmatic Griffith. The acclaimed manga is noted for its violent presentation and tragic tale, which deals with serious topics. Berserk was inspired by series such as Fist of the North Star, which in turn inspired series such as Attack on Titan and the Dark Souls video games.

Berserk-themed animated shows and movies have been made over the years, beginning with a 25-episode TV series in 1997. On the final episode of Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition, an homage to Miura was played.
