A new trailer has dropped for the upcoming Sailor Moon Cosmos movie duology.
Posted to the iconic magical girl anime franchise’s official YouTube account, the promotional video spotlights the strong bonds between the titular warrior-princess and her comrades. It solidifies some of the story’s major themes, including the power of friendship and love triumphing over evil, and provides glimpses of the Sailor Guardians’ stunning transformation sequences.
Sailor Moon Cosmos’ Magical Trailers
The team behind Sailor Moon Cosmos has been working hard to promote the new films, releasing a plethora of promotional material. A previous trailer more thoroughly showcases the transformations of the Inner Sailor Scouts and emphasizes Venus, Mercury, Mars and Jupiter’s respective elemental powers. Moreover, another one introduces viewers to the Sailor Starlights, Sailor Moon’s latest allies. Powerful female warriors with unique abilities, the trio actually masquerades as a popular boy band during the day, leading to plenty of gender-bending shenanigans.
Some companies are leveraging Sailor Moon’s popularity and the anticipation for the new films to turn a profit. Most notably, Namco will feature limited-edition collector’s items in its affiliated arcades from June 9 to July 17. The collection will include acrylic standees, keychains, cushions, shopping bags, stickers and mini art panels inspired by the events of the duology.
Sailor Moon Cosmos will adapt the “Shadow Galactica” story arc from Naoko Takeuchi’s iconic shojo manga and serve as the conclusion of the Sailor Moon Crystal reboot series. The plot sees all the Sailor Guardians work together to save the entire universe from the villainous Sailor Galaxia and her minions once and for all.
A third promotional trailer actually focuses on the movies’ glamorous bad guys, showing off the transformation sequences of multiple members of the arc’s titular evil empire and ending with a shot of the face-off between Sailor Moon and Sailor Galaxia. It also confirms the voice actors behind Shadow Galactica; Sena Koizumi (Baki) will bring Sailor Iron Mouse to life alongside Ayumu Murase (The Case Study of Vanitas) as Sailor Aluminum Siren, Yōko Hikasa (Berserk) as Sailor Lead Crow, Haruka Kudō (Bungo Stray Dogs) as Sailor Heavy Metal Papillion and Mariya Ise (Fairy Tail) as Sailor Tin Nyanko. Yuka Komatsu (Haikyu!!) and Fumie Mizusawa (World Trigger) will play Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi, respectively, while Shiori Mikami (Attack on Titan) voices Sailor Lethe and Kanae Itō (God Eater) plays Sailor Mnemosyne.
Sailor Moon Cosmos Part 1 makes its debut in Japan on June 9, followed by Part 2 on June 30.
