Ahead of the impending series debut of King the Land, South Korea’s newest romantic comedy drama receives a webtoon adaptation from Kakao Entertainment.

Per Redbeanime, JTBC network has partnered with Kakao Entertainment for a brand webtoon comic series, based on the upcoming K-drama King the Land. Illustrated by artist Spoon, the prequel webcomic is expected to expand the drama by featuring companion stories revolving around the main storyline. Kakao Entertainment has already dropped seven chapters of the King the Land manhwa, which depicts the first meeting of lead characters Gu Won and Sarang.

King the Land is created by Cheon Sung-il, with Im Hyun-wook and Choi Rom serving as the director and writer, respectively. The series follows the unlikely love story of Gu Won and Cheon Sa-rang. Gu Won is the heir and general manager to his family’s hotel empire King Hotel, known for his disdain against people with fake smiles. He will find himself clashing with one of his employees, the bubbly Sa-rang, who becomes known for her irresistible smile. As their relationship develops, Gu Won must also participate in an intense inheritance war.

Who’s the Cast of King the Land Series

King the Land will be led by K-Pop idols-turned-actors Lee Jun-ho of 2PM as Gu Won and Im YoonA of Girls’ Generation as Cheon Sa-rang. Apart from being part of one of the most successful K-Pop groups to date, YoonA also gained recognition for her leading performances in popular K-dramas including You Are My Destiny, Love Rain, The K2, and Big Mouth. Apart from her TV projects, she also starred in blockbuster action comedies such as 2017’s Confidential Assignment and 2019’s Exit.

Unlike YoonA, Lee Jun-ho started his acting career much later on with supporting roles in movies like Cold Eyes, The Terror Live, and Memories of the Sword. In 2015, he landed his first major movie as one of the leading characters in the coming-of-age movie Twenty. Afterward, he starred in K-dramas including Good Manager, Rain or Shine, Wok of Love, and The Red Sleeve, which further established him as a full-fledged leading man.

In addition to Lee Jun-ho and Im YoonA, the drama will also feature Go Won-hee as Sa-rang’s best friend Pyung-hwa, Ahn Se-ha as Gu Won’s secretary Sang-sik, Son Byong-ho as Gu Won’s father Il-hoon. Kim Seon-young as Gu-Won’s older sister Hwa-ran, Nam Gi-ae as Gu-Won’s mother Mi-so, and veteran actor Kim Young-ok as Sa-rang’s grandmother Soon-hee.

King the Land debuts on June 17, exclusively on Netflix in selected regions.
