The following contains spoilers for Chapter 80 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, “What Dad Would Do!” by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

The Boruto manga took some time to ramp up, but then the Isshiki Ōtsutsuki war came into play and unfolded at a breakneck pace. This kicked the Kara terrorist arc into full gear, which led to the villain dying and Kawaki being taken in by Konoha. Unfortunately, that goodwill has now backfired with Kawaki turning on Boruto.

The rogue teen goaded Eida to use her Omnipotence to alter reality, making the Hidden Leaf think Boruto was in fact the enemy. It’s a skill a-la Scarlet Witch, with Eida truly coming off like a god. However, as scary as Eida’s all-powerful technique is, it still doesn’t hold a candle to Kaguya’s Infinite Tsukuyomi in Naruto.

Kaguya Ōtsutsuki’s Infinite Tsukuyomi Was Near-Unbreakable in Naruto

The Infinite Tsukuyomi was the jutsu Kaguya wanted to enact from the Naruto era. The Rabbit Goddess used the Ten Tails husk to form the God Tree, which then stuck everyone to its branches. It would keep sucking their chakra, draining them mentally and physically while reducing everyone to shells. This would create the chakra fruit the Ōtsutsuki would eat, all before moving to a new world.

The sadistic part was that everyone would be kept dreaming inside their cocoons. They’d envision the perfect life — thinking of family, being a Hokage, or simply enjoying peacetime the shinobi world never got. This false utopia preoccupied everyone, so no one could ever break free and escape. Thankfully, Naruto and Sasuke used their power to avoid getting hooked, paving the way for them to team up with Sakura and stop the villain.

If not for them, all the ninja clans would be stuck in that state of deep sleep, partaking in dreams and never waking up. Simply put, it was physical and mental torture, and even if people emerged after a while, they’d be whittled down to skin and bone, ready to die. It all added up to a horror that the Boruto era’s Eida can’t quite match yet.

Eida’s Omnipotence in Boruto Has Many More Gaps

Boruto's <a href=Reality Swap Still Isn’t as Horrific as Kaguya’s Evil Plan in Naruto_1″ class=”lazyload” data-src=”https://static.animeranku.com/i/images/news/2023/5/15/boruto-s-reality-swap-still-isn-t-as-horrific-as-kaguya-s-evil-plan-in-naruto_1.png”/>

Now, Eida’s reality swap is a form of brainwashing in the most simplistic term. However, there are more red flags that can crack it apart and hint to everyone that something’s off with reality. Firstly, Boruto doesn’t address if things like books and family pictures will be altered. So far it’s only memories, but physical evidence might still linger for its downfall. The manga still has to clear up just how much Eida has tinkered with.

Notably, there’s another flaw as the folks Eida’s connected to emotionally are impervious, such as her brother Daemon and the likes of Sarada. Boruto’s other crush, Sumire, is also free of the change, which means non-godlike folks can escape the jutsu and work to reverse it. This wasn’t case for Kaguya’s special move in Naruto, which needed the elite to snap it out. Last but not least, Kawaki can still ask Eida to break the spell, creating more weaknesses in its effects. It’s why Boruto wants to talk with him and bring him back to the light, hoping to avoid an all-out physical clash.

In short, there are more trap doors to break Eida’s curse, and they don’t even need to be physical. Words can undo it, as mentioned, but with Kaguya’s spell, violence had to be enacted to take her down and break the jutsu. It required Naruto and Sasuke to transcend into higher beings, rather than just people who could use the “talk no jutsu” and chat her out of it. Ultimately, it makes Kaguya and her technique scarier than Boruto’s current take with Eida.
