Highlights

  • Pirates in One Piece are not always evil; they can behave reasonably and show kindness.
  • Some pirates, like Whitebeard and Shanks, protect and help others, proving not all pirates are brutes.
  • Luffy, Fisher Tiger, Kuma, and Sanji have all done great deeds and shown compassion towards others.

For most people in One Piece, pirates are the scum of the earth, while the Marines are the upholders of justice. Pirates are considered dangerous people who maim, kill, and pillage at will. But it is not so black-and-white. In fact, there are many instances where the pirates behaved in a much more reasonable way.

Due to this reason, it is not easy to call pirates evil and Marines good. These examples prove that not all pirates in One Piece are brutes and actually have a nicer side to them.

Whitebeard was the strongest man in the entire world. He possessed the Gura Gura no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allowed him to create quakes. Whitebeard’s power earned him a fearsome reputation, but he was not a cruel individual.

Whitebeard cared about his family and wanted what was best for them. He extended his kindness toward the people of Sphinx Island, which was his hometown. Whitebeard sent them money to help them, but they weren’t aware of it. He was also responsible for protecting Fish-Man Island. Under his flag, the island was safe from the attacks of other pirates and criminals.

6 Shanks Stopped The War

Stopping Deaths On Both Sides

Shanks is a character who is well-known for being rational and easygoing. He rarely gets involved in fights unless he absolutely needs to. During the Marineford arc, there were casualties on both sides. Even after the Marines accomplished their goal of murdering Ace and Whitebeard, they continued to fight.

After the deaths of the two, the war should have ended to avoid more casualties. However, no one was willing to take action until Koby stepped up. His speech was moving, but Akainu was furious that a Marine would try to obstruct justice. The Admiral rushed in to kill Koby, but thankfully, Shanks arrived in the nick of time. He stopped the attack and made it clear that there were too many people dying on both sides. This speaks volumes, especially when no other Marine was willing to stop the savagery.

Monkey D. Luffy is the epitome of kindness and goodwill. He cannot stand injustice and always tries his best to do the right thing. In the Alabasta arc, Luffy promised to help Vivi save her country. He took down Crocodile when the country was on the brink of civil war.

Then he came to Rebecca’s aid and took down the nefarious Doflamingo. His most recent heroic attempt was in the Wano Country arc, where he defeated Kaido, one of the Yonko. Aside from these three incidents, Luffy has done a lot of other great things, which proves that he is a great man.

Fisher Tiger is nothing short of a legend. After all, he was responsible for one of the most important events in One Piece. Fisher Tiger was a Fish-Man who infiltrated Marijoa and freed many slaves who were captured by the Celestial Dragons.

Despite the hatred of humans toward Fish-Men, Fisher Tiger still rescued them. Some of the people that he rescued were Boa Hancock, Boa Marigold, Boa Sandersonia, and Koala. Without his efforts, they would still be slaves to the Celestial Dragons or possibly die in captivity.

3 Kuma Cured The Old People

Putting Himself Through Pain For Others

Bartholomew Kuma was called a tyrant, due to which people throughout the world assumed that he was a horrible individual. However, that was the furthest thing from the truth. Kuma was actually an extremely generous and benevolent individual who treated the old people of the Sorbet Kingdom with his Devil Fruit.

When King Bekori decided to mercilessly slaughter people living in the southern parts of the kingdom, it was Kuma who stepped up and thwarted their attempts. Even after losing part of his mind, he was kind enough to save the Straw Hat Pirates from a Navy Admiral and the Pacifista. Furthermore, he willingly gave up his sense of individuality for the sake of his daughter.

Saving An Enemy

The Punk Hazard Arc is set on the island of the same name, which used to be Vegapunk’s laboratory. After being abandoned, Caesar came to the island and started illicit practices such as experimenting on kids. It is safe to say that his practices would never have come to light if the Straw Hat Pirates had not made their way to the island. However, they weren’t the only ones who landed on the island.

The Marines, namely Smoker and Tashigi, were also present in Punk Hazard, along with their underlings. They had no idea that Vergo was an enemy and that he would start attacking his fellow Marines. He even targeted Tashigi, and she would have died if Sanji hadn’t intervened. Sanji had no obligation to save her, but he did so anyway.

1 Sanji’s Team Saved The Minks

Rescuing An Entire Kingdom

In the Dressrosa arc, the Straw Hats decided to split into two groups. One was Luffy’s, while the other was Sanji’s. The latter had to go to Zou, and they knew it was going to be challenging. Upon their arrival, they found that the people of the Mokomo Dukedom were in peril and needed to be rescued.

The Minks were poisoned by Caesar’s weapon, which left them on the brink of death. Thankfully, Chopper had traveled with the group, and he immediately got to work and concocted an antidote. It was given to every Mink who had been poisoned. Without Sanji’s team, the Minks would have died.
