While Superman Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl helmet hasn’t officially been revealed yet, one fan online has taken matters into their own hands with fan art of what the character’s iconic headgear could look like in the upcoming film.

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU canon launches its live-action offerings with Superman, a highly anticipated film that is set to feature the new Man of Steel David Corenswet in the titular role alongside other stars like Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría and more. Notably, the film also cast Merced, who most recently appeared in the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web, as the DC hero Hawkgirl.

The only official visual from the movie is Superman’s shield, which spurred fan art of his potential Superman suit, and now one fan has started putting together a mockup of what they believe Merced’s Hawkgirl will look like, kicking off the process with her iconic helmet. Taking to Reddit’s r/DC_Cinematic, user felipeilla uploaded an image featuring three renders of the same general look for Hawkgirl’s helmet with the caption “Isabela Merced Hawkgirl helmet variations by Felipe Illa.” While largely identical and inspired by multiple versions of the comic costume, each of the three iterations has subtle differences within the darker areas of the helmet design.

The helmet is Hawkgirl’s most prominent feature other than her signature mace, and this version could be seen as a solid starting point for crafting a film-worthy version. While aesthetically pleasing, some other fans were quick to point out that the overall size of the helmet, especially the width, was a bit too large for Hawkgirl’s frame, being closer to a Wolverine mask than her helmet. Taking on such a prominent feature of the costume can be difficult, and the helmet was even skipped in Superman fanart showing Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Green Lantern.

Gunn has had to defend his Superman casting online due to fan uncertainty about the sheer number of characters making their debut in the film. The defense is certainly valid, as the film is meant to launch the entire universe and hasn’t yet exceeded the fair limits of speaking parts. However, fans will have to wait and see how well Gunn and Safran’s decisions for the film will pan out.

Superman is currently set for theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
